Should You Drop NEET 2018 by a Year to Prepare Better?

“I want to be a doctor” – You might have answered so to your class teacher when asked during your school time. Now that you are all grown-up, it’s time to achieve what you have dreamt once.

NEET is the only central level entrance examination to get admission to MBBS and BDS courses. This year, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is going to be held on May 6. With a couple days to spare for the last day to submit the NEET 2018 application form (March 9), aspiring candidates don’t want to take any chance by waiting till the last moment. While most of them have already submitted the application form, there are still a good number of candidates contemplating over appearing the exam. They are in the notion that dropping a year would enhance the preparation and score better when appear the exam next year.

How to Know If Dropping a Year or Two Is Good?

A recent study by a leading educational magazine, most NEET aspirants, when asked about dropping a year, said that they are not well-prepared for the entrance exam due to lack of time; some said they are not quite confident about their chances; and others said they are more focused on the Board examinations. Seek advice from elders, contact previous years’ candidates who have attempted and cleared the test or if possible, take a piece of paper and note down the pros and cons of not appearing the exam for a year. This way, the exam burden can be lessened to some extent.

  • You will miss out on getting first-hand exam experience.
